Located in Tasmania, this is the opportunity to join one of Australia’s most technically demanding mining operations, producing in the region of 2.5 million tonnes of iron ore from a substantial open pit configuration. An owner operated mine with a direct hire work-force, managed by an experienced team of mining industry professionals, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the structural geological models through ongoing data collection and analysis.
You will join the Mine Operations Technical team reporting to the Principal Geotechnical Engineer. Your experience should include 5+ years in an open cut mining operation and ideally will include significant time spent in a similar or related role covering structural geology and geotechnical modelling. Your software experience will include Leapfrog, Surpac, Dips, Matek iSite and DataShed. Your technically advanced skillset should also include drone and photogrammetry software such as Ademtech and Propeller, or similar relevant packages.
With the Life of Mine projected beyond 2030, the Company has recently commenced construction of the exploration decline, part of the feasibility study to evaluate the development of underground operations using the block cave approach. Obviously this will present the potential to significantly enhance your career experience profile.
In terms of your own career planning process, this is very much a technical role with the focus on geotechnical modelling, a role which is ideally suited to a person seeking to develop a career aligned to structural geology.
Working a 50 hour 5 day roster, all employees live on site during their roster with excellent on-site accommodation, messing and recreational facilities provided. There are 2 roster options in place. The 5/2:4/3 roster is ideal and designed to provide the opportunity to establish your home on Tasmania’s north-west coast, away from the high housing costs of the mainland in a relaxed urban or rural environment. Although the preference is for employees to live in Tasmania, the alternative is the 8/6 roster which is ideal for the FIFO option out of Melbourne or Sydney.
